Web Database Application Specialists

Sample Applications

American Petroleum Institute (API) - Composite List

The API Composite List is a directory of companies licensed to use the API Monogram and the APIQR Registration Mark. The list is a valuable tool designed to help buyers of API specified equipment locate qualified manufacturers around the world. Chesapeake Data Systems developed a Web-based application that allows anyone to easily search a database to display information about the manufacturers listed in the API Composite List. Anderson Strickler - Student Housing Surveys

Anderson Strickler, LLC helps educational institutions use land and buildings to achieve their missions by providing real estate consulting and project development services. They often used Web-based surveys to gather information about student preferences, and Chesapeake Data Systems creates these surveys based on a Word document (with the survey questions) and a spreadsheet (specifying required fields, etc.) (Click here for more information.)

Chesapeake Data Systems - Contact Management/Survey System

We developed this application to allow organizations to create sophisticated Web-based surveys without needing a programmer.  The application allows  emails (containing a link to the survey) to be sent (and tracked) based on contacts in a mailing list.  The system allows users to easily add new survey questions and to create a new surveys based on an existing survey.  Survey administration functions include creating the survey Web page, creating survey tables (to hold the survey results), viewing the survey results, sending emails, etc.

Northwind - Sample Order Entry System and Ad Hoc Report Writer

The Northwind database is distributed with both Microsoft Access and SQL Server.  We developed an application based on this database to provide examples of the many features that are required in a Web-based database application.  These include:

1. Editing data in a grid (Orders)
2. Updating fields based on a change to another field without needing a "round trip" (Orders - unit price updated after a product is selected; extended price  is updated after a quantity is entered (total price is also updated))
3. Updating fields in a record based on selection from a combo box (New orders - fills in shipping address for a customer)
4. Drilling down to child records (from a customer record, you can add or edit an order)
5. Ad Hoc Reports - uses Chesapeake's Ad Hoc Report Writer to enable users to

  • View data in any of the applications tables and views
  • Create their own reports (based on tables and view in the database)

Department of Veterans Affairs - Enforcement Information

Chesapeake Data Systems developed an Access/SQL system to that tracks information about each of the VA hospitals and how well their laboratories did in analyzing test specimens for various chemicals.  In order to make the data available to the 12 regions, the Department of Veterans Affairs asked us to create a Web-based application which staff in the regions could use to review the test results for the hospitals in their region.
