| The
"College Housing Survey" is based on a survey
generated for a client who surveys students housing needs. It
includes many of the features of a typical Web-based survey.
Chesapeake Data Systems has
developed a series of Web programs to assist with the analysis of the survey
results. Click the "Survey Analysis" link at the right to use these
programs to analyze the sample data.
The "Analysis Menu" allows the
user to run reports for individual questions or for the entire set of
questions.
If "Tabulation" is selected,
the report will just consist of tables summarizing the data. If "Full
Report" is selected, the report will also include charts/graphs of the data.
If a "Crosstab" item (see below) is not selected, two charts will be
displayed - a "bar chart" and a "pie chart". If a "Crosstab" item is
selected, the system will display two "bar charts" and one "pie chart".
(In a future version of the program, the user will be able to specify the
type of chart to display and how the chart is to be formatted).
If the "Include
records without a response to the pivot field question" option is not
selected and a "Crosstab item" was selected, the system will skip any
surveys which did not include an answer to the "Crosstab item".
Otherwise these will be included in the tables/charts under the heading "No
response".
If the "Include
records without a response to the question" option is not selected the
system will skip any surveys which did not include an answer to the
question. Otherwise these will be included in the tables/charts under
the heading "No response".
The "Crosstab Field" allows
the user to select a "radio button question" (e.g., "Gender") to be used to
generate a crosstab report and charts/graphs.
The user specifies whether
tables and/or charts are to be displayed by checking one of the
"Numeric/Text/Numeric and text" buttons. (Note the "text" refers to
any data which is entered into a "text box" on the survey - zip codes,
rents, text, etc.) (Question 1 is a "Numeric" question; Question 5 is "Text"
question; Question 11 has both "Numeric" and "Text" results; Question 22 has
"pull down" options - the system will generate a crosstab report with the
possible options for the rows and the various "sub questions" for the column
headers.)
For surveys with lots of
questions, the questions can be "grouped". The system then allows the
user to select a specific "group" and all of the questions for group are
displayed on the "Analysis Menu". |
